Today, I did the unthinkable. I had 2 sesame ice creams in one day. First, McDonald’s black sesame swirl softserve in the subway station as a snack. Then at night, this “black sesame volcano” that was calling to me throughout dinner. Not sure what the world is coming to, but I am one happy sesame. Black sesame is known to have so many health benefits. Yes, it does appear I am talking about health in a McDonald’s softserve post, but here goes. When my sister and I were young, my mom constantly told us that black sesame would make our hair more dark and shiny. All of you with Asian moms know exactly what I’m talking about; others will think I’m making no sense at all. Anyhow, black sesame is actually very high in magnesium (reduces blood pressure and headaches), zinc (fights colds), dietary fiber, and lowers cholesterol – just to name a few. All I can say is that no one needs to force us to eat more black sesame. When Ellen visited me in Shanghai this year, she bought every black sesame dessert in sight, whether it was in brittle, liquid, chewy, crumbly, or gelatinous form. We are obsessed.
