I never really knew hot pot until I experienced Boiling Point. This Taiwanese hot pot chain is mind-blowingly delicious and lives up to all the hype. While I like sharing, let’s not kid around – having the choice of my very own personal hot pot customized to my liking is pretty amazing. As such, I was pretty excited to check out their newest store opening in Pasadena. This new location is unique in that it’s a Concept Store, with a new Boiling Point menu offering more variety including add-ons like cheddar cheese, organic vegetables, and premium meat cuts.
As you can see, there are plenty of different and special choices, from Pomelo to Lamb. I decided on the Angus Beef hot pot, and my friend Natalie tried the BP Classic since it was her first (and definitely not last) time at a Boiling Point restaurant. Yes, she absolutely loved it, as I knew she would. I got the cheddar cheese add-on because 1) I LOVE CHEESE and 2) You know, when in Rome. It was so fun to eat cheese with Chinese food because that never happpens! They could have loaded up more cheese in my pot, but I guess it is just an add-on and let’s be honest, I’m greedy. In all, savoring the cheesy beef was heavenly, especially when mixed in with the black sesame brown rice that came with each hot pot.
We were super full after our individual hot pots, but couldn’t leave without trying the Organic Milk Grass Jelly Dessert. It came with a ball of shaved ice that was drizzled with brown sugar that slowly melted into the silky jelly. The brown sugar was perfect in sweetness and didn’t take away at all from the naturally fragrant flavor of the grass jelly. If you haven’t tried grass jelly, it’s not as intimidating as it sounds or looks. It’s basically herbal jello that tastes great with ice creams and in milk teas. Amy always gets grass jelly in her milk teas in place of boba, claiming it’s a “health food,” but I think she secretly just likes the taste.
And the gluttony didn’t stop there. We couldn’t resist swinging by the famous 85 Degrees Bakery across the street where I picked up my favorite Blueberry & Cream Cheese Bun, which is probably too much for you to handle right now, but I’ll share in a future post. For now, I’ll be relishing in my food coma while you suddenly develop a hankering for hot pot. Bye Sesames!
