As far as Sunday Brunch spots go, this lovely French cafe has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a cozy date spot, a casual meet-up with friends, or just somewhere to grab a tasty croissant sandwich on the go, Odelice has your back. After scrolling through too many beautiful breakfast photos on Instagram, I developed a nagging hankering for Eggs Benedict. So on this fine Sunday morning, as I woke up mumbling about fluffy egg whites, I dragged my husband out of bed and into the French Concession area of Shanghai where we would enjoy a relaxing morning filled with all the eggs my heart desired…
… And we got more than we bargained for. I started off with a Peach Ice Tea (one less pump of syrup please) and my husband had his usual coffee so he wouldn’t be a grumpy grouch. It was cute that his cup of joe came with a mini biscuit and tiny pitcher of warm frothy milk. I just love when restaurants mind the details. We shared the Salmon & Florentine Eggs Benedict, which came with a generous heaping of spinach and some cheesy hollandaise-crusted benedicts – just the way I wanted them. The string beans and radish in the side salad were a crisp and refreshing addition.
My husband chose the Croque Madame, something he realized he hadn’t had since his last visit to France! Croque Madames just aren’t chillin’ on every street corner in Shanghai obviously. He gave this one two thumbs up. As usual, I ended up eating most of it. The runny egg yolk and melted Emmental cheese balanced out perfectly with the salty, thinly-sliced French ham. The size of this dish was hearty and a meal all on its own.
Of course, it’s not a complete Sunday Brunch without a sweet treat at the end. It was so hard to decide between a crepe or a waffle, but the Nutella crepe was the appropriate decision since we were so full by the end that the less carbs, the easier on our tummies. I love how they really pile on the warm Nutella; um, Nutella was not made to be skimped on! (I should know, I was so obsessed with Nutella as a young’n that my AIM screenname was AmeTheNutellaGrl and I ate Nutella with everything down to my bowl of rice at dinner). Those with a sweet tooth need not worry as there’s a variety of sweet crepes and waffles to pick from, including salted caramel! I know.
The next time I’m here, I’ll switch things up and treat myself to one of their galettes, which is similar to a savoury crepe. I still reserve my right to a sweet crepe afterwards though!
