It’s not an understatement to say that I don’t cook. My friends actually make fun of me for not knowing how to scramble eggs (hey, it’s hard to get them just right!) But recently, I’ve been following Buzzfeed’s Tasty page and it has actually inspired me to try to make something in the kitchen! I picked their One-Pot Cajun Pasta for 2 reasons: 1) I LOVE pasta with cream sauce, and 2) The “one” pot proposition just made it seem less daunting… and also meant less dishes to wash.
First, I cut up all the vegetables. It took a bit longer than I thought it would, and gave me newfound respect for prepwork in the kitchen. I was very proud of my handiwork:
The recipe called for chicken, but I decided to substitute with shrimp instead, just to do something different and have some fun. I sautéed the shrimp and sausage in the pot first, seasoning everything with cajun spice.
Then, I added in the garlic, onion, peppers, and mushrooms. I stirred until the vegetables softened.
The next part got a little interesting. The recipe said to place the pasta in the pot to cook, but I was unsure about cooking pasta inside the pot with all the sauce and vegetables… I thought pasta was supposed to be cooked separately in boiling water. But fully aware of my fledgling skills and not wanting to argue with the whole “One Pot” theory, I went ahead and threw the pasta in… and the result was amazing! One Pot Cooking FTW!
Not bad for someone who doesn’t cook, eh? Now onwards to scrambling eggs…
