For a quick weekend lunch date, my style motto is to keep it understated but always eye-catching. What better shoes for the job than my Pierre Hardy Eye Sandals? These babies are more versatile than you’d think. I initially bought them planning to reserve them for special events, but since then I’ve worn them pretty much everywhere.
Today, I matched them with a loose black tank, charcoal crochet shorts, and a white-hot peplum blazer. Whenever I stick to neutral colors, I like to mix up textures as much as I can, like the leather panel on my top and lace trim on my shorts. Since I shop with an eye for fabric, the materials I choose end up representing who I am in a way and what I want to communicate: a feminine (lace) risktaker (leather) with modern (neoprene) and whimsical (calfhair “eye” shoes) tendencies.
What I’ve learned over the years is that when most of the pieces in your closet are odd and interesting, it’s easy to reuse them with basics when you’re short on time. We’ve all been in the situation where you’ve lost track of the clock and have exactly 10 minutes to get out the door! This pair of crochet shorts would do well with any plain tee you throw on, and this faux-leather top can be paired with jeans for an instantly “planned” look. And here’s a secret: I used to wear this white blazer with a professional suit dress all the time when I made appearances in court as an attorney. Perfectly work appropriate. Today, it was just as easy to throw on with shorts for weekend lunch. These are what I call fashion shortcuts, necessary in the life of a busy woman with things to do and places to go!
With this outfit, I couldn’t just carry any old clutch. Enter my glossy plastic magazine roll aka my clutch that I picked up in the night markets for a bargain. With a black and white outfit, you can never go wrong with a hint of red! Any bright or unexpected-looking clutch will do. Note: When you meet your lunch date, just be prepared to explain why the magazine you’ve been reading opens up to reveal a tube of lip gloss.
Takeaway: Consider expanding the different textures in your closet today, to ensure brilliant top-and-bottom permutations tomorrow!
